Don't know about the Sony, but Sharp have a bookshelf system out (the
MD-M3H) which can copy from CD to MD faster than realtime. I believe it's
about 2x faster than normal.
It sells for ~350 UKP, there's a review of it in the October What Hifi?
(btw, current MD stuff in the Richer ad - TDK MD74s for 99p ea (max 20),
Sony MDSJE530 deck for 130, the 930 for 200, and the R55 portable for 200 as
well.)
