| Not quite true, Rat. The digital output is not always 100% identical. If
| you rip the data from a CD at a higher speed rather than play the CD, the
| error correction method becomes less reliable and the data is subject to
| more corruption.

Ripped data does not go down the digigal audio link, and audio playback is
so "slow" that the disc would need to be seriously damaged for error
correction to begin to fail.  The el-cheapo Goldstar drive should be no
better or worse than a Plextor for making digital copies to MD.

Ripping is, as you say, another matter.
