The boomboxes are a good deal, since you get not only an MD recorder,
but also CD player, digital CD->MD recording, built-in amp/speakers,
wireless remote, for not much more than just a portable recorder (of
course, they won't fit in your pocket).

I have the Casio ZD-1 boombox which has line but not mic input.
Nice quality Casio stuff though. I'm getting my sister a Sanyo MCD-3100
(which is also available under the Fisher brand by the way, Casio &
Fisher are alive & kicking). (Santa is _very_ generous this year.)
That one adds cassette (ugh!), mic input (I'm fairly sure), and is
AC only. It's en-route from minidisco (good price, 2nd day air ships
out same day if you order by 3 Eastern, and they had 50+ left, so they
thought they won't run out).

Then again, I'm not the most savvy consumer, I just got my 20/$34.95
Memorex MD's from J&R today, ordered before someone said they were
cheaper at Circuit City :<
