Hey Rick,

I succeeded to put my hand on one of Voquette's new Beta version of their MD NetLink
Adapter.

It's a USB to S/PDIF digital adapter that allows digital recording directly from the
PC to the MD.

It was easy to install and use. The sound quality was good - and without the systems'
sounds of their previous analog version.
(I tested it with my Sony notebook and my Sony R55 and Sharp 15. I am trying now to
get more information about release dates, how people can pre register to get one,
pricing, etc. - no success yet)

I found their VMM software very helpful in managing MP3 files recordings (as well as
streaming audio recordings).
I heard that there's a way to get more info. about the MD NetLink on their site
(www.voquette.com), but I haven't succeeded to snick in.
(let me know how?)

Re Linux: no idea

Re: Notebook S/PDIF IO solution: I just played with the new Sharp notebook (they are
going to release it this winter), it comes with S/PDIF built in and its great. (no
adapters needed). Till than (or for those who don't plan to have a new laptop)
Voquette's new USB MD adapter seems to be a good solution - once they release it
(when?)

I just received one of these (MDPort) for evaluation. Setup and use is
incredibly easy, you basically just plug it in (Windows 2000 then
automatically switches output to the USB device). No drivers to
install, no switches to set, no nothing. Download your free MP3s (from
the "starving artist" section of mp3.com, natch) and go wild. The
sound is very good.

Anyone know if this USB device will work under Linux?

Rick
