Not 100% the case.

I have the digital output of my CD-ROM plugged into the digital input on
my sound card, and a TOSLink cable from the digital output of my sound
card to the digital input of my MD recorder.  I'm willing to bet that,
since track marks are not transmitted across that link, that SCMS also is
not transmitted across that link.
