Dan,
I wrote to the folks at Xitel regarding the differences between the DG-1 and
the DG-2 and this is what they had to say:

"...The DG2 is a totally new digital interface that includes a dual mode
output
switch allowing you to set the optical S/PDIF stream to continual or
discrete. This allows you to configure the recording environment to meet
the limitations or capabilities of the digital recording buffer in your
particular model of MD recorder.

It is fully compatible with all Mac systems running at least 9.0.4 with
Apple Audio Extension 1.0.5. The retail version in the USA does not include
the new updated Mac user manual (which can be downloaded off our site) or
the new Mac software. This will be introduced in around 1 to 2 months.
