On Tuesday evening I wandered into my backyard to fill a feeder. I avoid
the backyard in the mornings because of all the wood ducks and mergansers
around. But, when I passed one of my wood duck houses, I flushed a hen on
the eggs. She sounded like a merganser. Since she was gone, I looked in
and counted nine eggs, which looked more like Wood Duck eggs than
merganser's. The next morning a Wood Duck was sitting half out of the box.

Today's FOY bird - Rough-winged Swallows in Golden Valley.--
