Still finding Fox Sparrows, Hermit Thrushes, Purple Finches, and many
Juncos around the house. I have never heard so many of the Juncos singing
as I have this year. Maybe some will stick around. Three or four years ago
I found a male singing in Eagan by the river, but I could not relocated a
few days later. Everywhere I go I find pairs of Mallards wandering in the
streets. Yesterday a pair was wandering in my front yard.

I had an interesting report of a small bat flying during Sunday night's
snow storm. I thought it might be a victim of white nose infection, where
the bats are known to leave their hibernacula early. But, a bat expert
explained it was probably a bat that had already established itself in its
maternal roost, but needed to get water. And, the only part of the picture
that was wrong for the time was the snow.

I am pretty sure that I found an ermine (weasel in white) dead by the
concrete barrier in the middle of Hwy 100 near Excelsior in St.
Louis Park. It was not in the kind of place where I could stop. There is
also the possibility that it was only a dead gym sock.
