Sure, the assembly files will have changed. For example, in mpn/x86_64w/sqr_basecase.asm the PIC path didn't even compile until Brian helped me change it. Maybe we still don't have it correct, though it didn't seem to work at all even for a static library when I tried. So I thought this was now fixed.
Someone did make a bug report about segfaults with a shared library build, ages ago. Bill.
