So follow the installation directions appropriate for the flavor of Linux
you are using. That's where MySQL lives, in the OS, not the application
layer.

Full, step-by-step details and troubleshooting information can be found
here:
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/installing.html

How you connect a MythTV application (or subcomponent or whatever it's
composed of) to MySQL is entirely dependent on how it's been written. You
will have to refer to the documentation specific to your application to
know how to use MySQL as a data backend. If you are building something
from scratch, you have many choices. Many details can be found here:

http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/apis.html

You can also research the web, the lists archives, the forum archives, and
any other documentation you can find in your quest for knowledge. If there
are any specific issues we can help you figure out we (the list members)
will be happy to help. Please be sure to include all relevant information
with any new post.

Best wishes!
