Dear Tom:

Thanks a lot for your response.

We have Linux firewalls on all the servers. Firewall rules prevent
servers from responding to icmp-echo or ping. Still, 4 of the 5 servers
respond to nessus scan. It is one particular server which nessus fails
to scan.

Any other idea? Has anybody else on this list encountered this behavior?

Regards.

Ravi,

Its possible that you have the "ping the host" setting on and the box is
configured not to respond to pings (possible an XP machine with the
built in firewall turned on?). This would cause the scan to skip that
IP if it couldnt ping it. Have you tried actually pinging the box via
the commandline?

Subject: Nessus not scanning

Dear Friends:

I will appreciate your help in this regard. We have 5 servers with
public IP address. I am able to use nessus against 4 of them. But
whenever I try to scan the fifth one, nessus shows status of 100%
completion instantly and does not scan at all.

I am perplexed because nessus is working perfectly well against the
other four. I eagerly wait for your response.

Regards.
