I have applies various fixes to trunk to allow it to build with MSVC 6.
pass.c and pass_persist.c still have to be updated to support
counter64 under Windows (there is no strtoull in MSVC 6). Hopefully
this will be done before pre2 but if not then pre3.
Patch 2772787 also needs to be applied which reverses patch 1627049:

The changes were also tested with Linux (Fedora 9 64-bit).
