I know what they are - doesn't change the fact that I don't have access to
any of them to test anything.

Odd... What CXXFLAGS were you using?
Does it still happen if you set CXXFLAGS to "-O2 -fomit-frame-pointer
-fno-rtti -fno-exceptions -mpentium -march=pentium"?
