Transparent terminals:

the most popular is Eterm (www.Eterm.org)

..I had problems with the rpm version (linked on their site)
it seem to put stuff in the wrong places..so it can't find all the nice
back grounds it comes with.

Get the source...make sure you have imlib....oh and after you've compiled
and installed it it proly wont run, as it cant find shared libs...so
edit /etc/ldconfig (or what ever it is) and add the X11 dir where the
Etemlibs are to it, then run ldconfig and it should all work.

Check the man page for more details....
basically Eterm -O gives pseudo transparency.
you can also add shading and/or a couloured tint.

Note Eterm is designed to run under Enlightenment...if you run it under
KDE etc it won't be able to grab the background image for transparency, so
you'll have to run a program called Esetroot (comes with eterm)...see
documentation.( I'd like to know if anyone gets this working with KDE, and
how to do it!)

Gnome also comes with a teminal emu that does transparency...
but it's not as good as Eterm.
