Thanks for the info. Next item is ....  You want to use linux as a server?  But you are trying to ping to anotther (server?).  What exactly is your configuration?

 Look for PaNTs at the search, then go to their web page.  Perhaps that is what you are looking for.  Make sure you get the latest updates on SQUID.

Very much an alternative.  Check chapter 3 of that document for a 3-line firewalling scheme that links outward using linux as a server between a LAN and the internet or another network...  Not really good for security, but should allow you to test connections.

the proxy and eth1 to connect to whatever you will have in the future?  Move
