this all assumes that the program your are going to compile actually uses
a configure script or a Makefile. Your absolute best bet when compiling
something from scratch is to uncompress the source and read the
documentation included inside (something i learn the hard way) and do what
it says (this INSTALL file is usually a great help if its there ;) ). If
at first you dont succeed - Read. hehe.
