Graham - I don't know the answer to your problem, but for future ref. this is 
what I did about fat32 data directories.  In File Manager SuperUser mode I 
created a desktop config file (rt-click, create new > link to URL) on the 
desktop, changing the icon to a folder.  I gave myself the owner and users 
the group ownership, and pointed the URL tio the data directory.  It works 
fine, and I can copy to and from without problems.
