[newbie] video accelleration in Linux

I remember hearing somewhere that one gets no harware video accelleration
when using a TNT2 based video card in Linux, but Voodoo3 users do.  Is this
correct?  What about the Voodoo Banshee (Creative Labs 3D Blaster AGP)?
Will I get the benefit of hardware acceleration with this card in Linux?
