Further reading reveals that it can also infect BIOS. The motherboard is
an Asus P5A, which has Trend chip away virus guard (or something to that
effect). I am curious and my googling has been unproductive--does
anybody know if the virus infects BIOS immediately, or if it only
happens on the 26th as well? In other words, if I reformat and install
Mandrake for her, will I later get a problem resulting from infection
under Windoze? Apparently, the result of infected BIOS is an unbootable
machine. Since it boots, I'm assuming it's not infected, but maybe it
will become infected the 26th (I have absolutely no idea how computers
work on this level, obviously!).
I have done some research on flashing the BIOS, and it doesn't look that
complicated, but it's something I'd rather not undertake if the BIOS is
not infected.

If not , better get it enabled, if you have problems I
suspect it will detect it immediately. If it doesn't I think
you will be fairly safe. Updates ,in my experience
are a none event, maybe you will have better experience
but there is even a warning on the website to say
if you are not experiencing difficulties don't bother.
