Ken; Most NIC's, hubs switches, etc. will display the speed of your connections by using 2-color LEDS. The general rule-of-thumb is that a 10Mb connection will show an amber or yellow LED color on the NIC, hub, etc., and a 100 Mb connection will show a green LED. The owners manual for your NIC, hub, etc., will also tell you whether or not they support this standard.
So, tests are not required, just a little bit of "light" reading. Hope this helps(?).
