That error will because the system is picking up your old NVIDIA_GLX glx extension instead of the Mesa glx extension the open source driver uses. The simple solution is to uninstall the old Nvidia drivers. You can do that from a root console with the command urpme NVIDIA_GLX NVIDIA_kernel derek
