I am running my own irc server using the mandrake contrib ircd rpm.. actually, I downloaded the src rpm and recompiled it with a few changes allowing me to use /kill and enabling services (though I have not found any services available for that version of ircd, so that was kinda pointless.. but /kill is cool.)
If you want to run your own leaf.. then you would probably be better off grabbing a newer more maintained ircd.. the one mandrake offer is not really developed anymore as far as I can tell.. As an alternative, there is a perl ircd daemon available somewhere on freshmeat or sourceforge that seems pretty cool. and mozilla.org have a perl bott as well. just FYI. rgds Franki -----Original Message----- From: [mailto: Behalf Of Anders Lind Sent: Tuesday, 1 July 2003 1:03 PM To: Subject: Re: [newbie] IRC Server > I used: > > root]# urpmi ircd > Please insert the medium named "disc 3 Supplementary Applications CD (x86) > (cdrom3)" on device [/dev/cdrom] > Press enter when it's done... > installing /mnt/cdrom/Mandrake/RPMS3/ircd-2.10.3-7mdk.i586.rpm > unable to read rpm file > [/mnt/cdrom/Mandrake/RPMS3/ircd-2.10.3-7mdk.i586.rpm] from medium "disc 3 > Supplementary Applications CD (x86) (cdrom3)" > error: open of /mnt/cdrom/Mandrake/RPMS3/ircd-2.10.3-7mdk.i586.rpm failed: > No such file or directory > Installation failed > root]# > > So how do i set up urpmi to get stuff off the net???? I wouldn't, the reason for that is that there heaps of IRCD's around on the net that are already complete, download one of them, compile and just off you go..... Cheers Anders
