I had the same problem <snipped> when I unchecked cdrom 1 in order to
get a file I needed from contrib instead, since it wouldn't recognize
the CD (kept kicking it out and asking again).
Now I try to re-enable the CD and it won't update.
I think Miark's idea should work but haven't tried it yet.
