i recently aquired a DVD ROM drive. i wasn't able to install the newest verison of XINE successfully, so i went ahead with mplayer. i can watch dvds now, but the volume is incredibly low. i have it all the way up on mplayer but it's not loud enough compared to other computer sounds, and when i turn the external volume up on the 4.1 creative sound system i have, other computer sounds blow me across the room because they are so loud. i'm using a soundblaster 16PCI card. Aumix only adjusts overall sounds. anyone know where i can adjust the output sound of mplayer? i don't want to get blown away by computer sounds because i have to turn the volume up to watch a DVD. thanks.

Mike

If you have both Aumix and Kmix turned right up full and have set them as such as default settings, maybe you need to look at gmplayer itself, there are a number of audio driver settings in preferences, if that does not work, then I would suspect you need better versions of lame. Mplayer is a very demanding programme, a hell of a lot of resource goes into playing moving pictures, some sound drivers may not work well with mplayer. I installed Ralph Slooten's, lame-20030216cvs-1mdk.i586.rpm from his website.

One last thought maybe you have aRts enabled ? in MCC
