Check to make sure that mplayer is using the arts output plugin if you are running KDE. If it is using /dev/dsp, it may not be releasing the sound device when it is done and that would lock it up for other apps. Had this problem myself and once I configured mplayer to use arts, I haven't seen it since. -- Bryan Phinney Software Test Engineer
