Sorry if I'm being a pest, I have asked this question already under the subject of "NEC versa E600 laptop install" but got no answers. This is the last time I'll ask I promise :-)

I'm trying to install MDK9.2 on my wifes laptop. The installation goes fine, but then when I reboot to run it for the first time things go wrong. As the system boots up, the progress bar freezes approx 2/3 of the way along. When I restart and press 'esc' for verbose mode, I see all the things I usually see on my desktop machine - all the devices and services that it starts, then a few lines after it starts alsa (it moves too fast for me to see what the last service is) it starts scrolling through lines and lines of text, too fast for me to read in any detail. The text takes the following approximate form:

[<cea17814>] ??????????????????????????????????? [supermount]

the "cea17814" is constantly changing, this is just one I managed to read as it flew past. The "supermount" also often says "kernel" and as for the question marks, I can't pause the screen so I'll never know what that says. The longest I have left this screen scrolling past is half an hour....with no progress.

Any ideas???

The only problem I encountered on setup was the X server, on the final options screen it has not been configured automatically like it was when I installed on my desktop. I go through and give it the following options:
"Flatpanel 1024X768" and graphics card "radeon" under "ati" - it had no option for the raedon 340M or anything else closer. I have also tried "radeon" under X4 but that does not change anything.
Has this happened to anyone else?

Any / all suggestions greatly appreciated.

Aidan
