John, I have not been closely following this thread but if you are running 9.2 the configuration option you wish to change did not exist previously.
Edit /etc/sysconfig/bootsplash set SPLASH=no
I think this will give you the view you wish during boot.

Isn't that to remove the gui splash screen if so that is not what I'm trying to do.
I want to get back to the B/W full screen width boot script. I want a good screen resolution vga=791 is what I always choose.
OK I've attatched dscioo21.jpg which is not a particularly sharp image but does to demonstate what I DO NOT WANT.
How do I get back to what I want ?
