I don't think there is a problem with my ISP as I never had this kind of 
problem with this computer (same hardware, same software) prior to 
reinstalling it yesterday and I am using the same ISP account with my 
laptop. I probably didn't install Mandrake the exact same way as before and 
it failed to configure something. I still think it's got something to do 
with security: wrong access rights somewhere or wrong security settings. 
Note as well that DrakConnect doesn't even see the active internet 
connection (status remains "not connected").

Yes, that should work, and in fact, it looks as though it is.  Wild guess 
that
the problem is on the ISP's end.  Also, comment out #nameserver 127.0.0.1
