Two ways : To make the change permanent, edit your /etc/inittab and replace the :5 with a :3 in the runlevel section. To boot into the CLI only occasionally, just at the bootsplash hit F1 (or eventually Esc) and type : linux 3. HTH Kaj Haulrich.
