I have a Kodak DC3400 ( couple of years old now) but it works with gphoto and 
also if I plug the compact flash card into my card reader I get much faster 
access . shows up as Genesys usb to ide card.  So I would not rule out Kodak. 
It is an excellent camera for the money.
