This is bordering on being ridiculous! I have run the Mandrake10.1 (the one in which I had to edit the /etc/lilo.conf file append line to get it to shut down), which is installed on my main hard drive. As an experiment, I re-edited its lilo.conf file, replacing apic=off with the default apic=ht. Then I ran lilo. It now shuts down correctly! But it definitely didn't when there was apic=ht in the append line when it was installed. I wonder if re-running lilo sorted out an installation problem? I'm probably wrong. Cheers Keith
