I wonder if it is acpi=on or set you acpi on in your bios

I KNOW that this has been asked before, but I can't find the answer in the archives or in twiki. Sorry for asking it again.
I have a new machine, and now, when I close down, everything closes down correctly, but then Mandrake does not actually switch the computer off.
If I remember correctly, there is something to change in the lilo.conf file, but I can't remember what it is - not having needed it before.
Please, what is it?
