As far as I can tell, if you have another network connection enabled (i.e. a
LAN connection), internet just won't work.  The only thing I can think of is
that Netscape is searching your own machine for the dns to get you where you
want to go.  Make sure you have all other connections disabled before you
try to connect to the internet.
