Hello,

I have trouble configuring PCMCIA Xircom 33.6 C.Card modem with my Gateway
Solo9300 PIII notebook.
C.Card is recognized by LInux (reported as Xircom CM33 33.6 PCMCIA modem, by
cardctl utility. But with i/o addresses DIFFERENT from reported by w98 Device
manager). Every time, I get Card in or out from slot, machine emit beeps.
But when I try configure with linuxconfig, or PPP, I get "modem is busy", or
"sorry, there are no modem" error message.
I tried out ALL ports, but with same result.
Guys from Manrake support recommend do not accept PCMCIA card support,
during installation, but rather install AFTER system installation completed.
My questions are:
-could I do my modem work, WITHOUT complete reinstallation of Linux 7.0?
-are i/o differences between w98 and Linux , relevant to this case? How I
can force Linux recognize correct i/o addresses?

Thanks in advance and my apologies for bad English.

Boulat
