Greetings,

After a successful few weeks of Mandrake 7.0 on a Dell Latitude LS laptop, I
decided to reformat my Linux partitions and do a fresh install of Mandrake
7.1.

The installation went fine using CD's I burned from the two ISO images
available for download, but now, when I boot, the machine hangs when it gets
to:

Loading sound module(nm256)

I need to hold down the power button to get the machine to shut off.
Control-C doesn't seem to work.

I hadn't attempted to use sndconfig with my 7.0 install.

The machine has a neomagic sound card.

How can I get past this error? I could live without sound, if I have to,
but having a machine that doesn't boot Linux is a bit short of my objective
:)

Thanks!

John
