You can use IMAP server with pine: 

        inbox-path={host}/INBOX

(POP is not supported)

For news, something like:

        news-collections=*{newshost/nntp}[],

But since pine has a nice configuration editor (press: M S C to get
there), with nice contex-sensitive help, it should not be too difficult to
figure out this kind of details...
