If you make a launcher on your desktop, you should have the ability to
select 'Run In Terminal'. This will open the terminal window and start the
app.

I'm using Gnome, but I believe both KDE has it also... there's a  menu
editor, and for the life of me I can't figure out where Mandrake has put it,
and you can put you hotlist in the user panel, or "favourites".
