hi all,

i recently tried to upgrade tcl/tk because a prog called tik (an aol
instant messenger clone) said my version - 8.0.5 was too old, i
downloaded versions 8.3.2-2.mdk of tcl, tix and tk because i read that
together they made up what is known as tcl/tk? but when i ran kpackage
and tested the install of each of these rpms i got messages saying that
previous versions of files in each package were needed by other progs
eg. a test install of tcl-8.3.2-2.mdk says:
libtcl8.0.so is needed by <list of progs>,
the version of this file with the newer package is libtcl.8.3.so,

question one: can i have two versions of a package installed at the same
time, even though more testing revealed that some files in different
versions have the same name and so could not exist together? eg. both
versions of tcl install a file called tcl.h to the same place
(/usr/lib/include/) as well as other files.

question two: if so, how can i do this, do i have to use special options
on a command line with rpm or give options to the prog i want to run?

confusedly
bascule
