[newbie] Mouse on responding on installation

Dear who ever

I am trying to install Mandrake 7.0 on my old PC but my mouse which has a
serial port connection behaves in an unexpected manner during installation.
It seams that the cursor is moving in frames! Also it selects things
randomly with out clicking on any thing???????? The same mouse works OK on
Windows 98, sort of OK (it loads some times and doesn't on other times). Can
anyone explain what I can do to make my mouse work?
