Hello,

I am having problems getting my Compaq Deskpro EP Series 6400 sound going
under 7.1.

I copied the driver information Windows 98 was using before I bleemed the
drive completely. Mandrake picked up the same driver, irq, and DMA settings
that Windows had, yet it doesn't work. To be honest, I have no idea what the
sound device actually is. Looking up on Compaq's these are what they had
listing as the Windows drivers for this model:

Compaq/ADI SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio for Win 98SE/2000
Compaq/ADI SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio for Windows 9x
Creative Labs Encore DXR3 HW-DVD Software
WDM Audio Update for Windows 98SE

Windows 98 was using ESS 1689 or 1869  . .I can't remember off the top of my
head and Mandrake picked up what Windows 98 had.

I am curious if it would be better to just go pick up a cheap approved PCI
sound card and call it a game or if someone might have some suggestions. I
tried every setting in the Drake sound area to no available. ( assuming
making a change then clicking TEST should work instantly without some other
action) I would get device busy or other error messages. Am I doing
something wrong or is the sound device simply not supported?

Thanks for any information.

Phil
