X is using what is likely a 320x240 resolution or
something along thos lines. Try ctrl-alt-+or- to cycle the resolutions. If that
does not change anything you may have to reconfigure your monitor refresh
frequencies.You must know the refresh rates of your monitor to do this. You
could also try this link for video timing http://www.hut.fi/Misc/Electronics/faq/vga2rgb/calc.html
this was the only way I was able to get a
functional 88x600 resloution as 1024x768 is just to small on a 15"
monitor.
