FYI
Yes, your bios need to be able to 'see' the new drive at boot up. Suggest 
look at the top left corner of your monitor at boot up, you will see the 
bios maker, version, and date displayed - press the [pause] key on 
keyboard, so you have alot of time to copy. Ask the maker for info.
I have a Seagate 15 Gb, but my Award Bios - 1996 - version, 'thinks' it is 
8.4 Gb HTH
