I had the same thing happen to me. Thankfully I am only experimenting with Linux. I
had to resort to a fresh install to fix all the problems. Selecting fresh install
will give you the option to format selective partions. Hopefully you have your root
and home partitions separated. The fresh install will automatically select the
partition(s) that will require a format to accomplish a fresh install.
After the install I had to run sndconfig to get sound running again.
I am relatively happy with 7.2
