[newbie] VI

Hello,
In others distro of linux I was able to use the arrow keys when editing a
file with vi.
Now I have installed Mandrake 7.2, but when editing a file with vi I am not
able to
use the arrow keys because control character appears.

Does anyone knows how to resolve this problem?
Do I need the lasted improved vi?
