Hello, I hope someone can help with this.
I'm trying to re-compile my Linux-mandrake 7.0 2.2.14-15mdk kernel because
I have installed an Teac IDE/ATAPI CD write drive, and I've been told I
must be re-compile the kernel to remove the CDrom modual and and activate
SCSI emulation. In other words to fool the OS in to thinking I have a SCSI
cdwriter.

OK, when I start with the first process I receive the following error.

I cd to /usr/src/linux and type make xconfig I receive this error msg.

Make: *** No Rule to make target 'xconfig'. Stop.

It doesn't make any difference if I try make config or make menuconfig
what ever I try to make give's me this error.

I've been keeping up with the Mandrake security updates and I wonder if
maybe I've broken something. Plus, I've compiled kernels before on an older
system using RedHat 5.2 so... I'm lost as to what my next step should be.

And if its not necessary to re-compile the kernel, then.. I'm all for that.
Provided I can get my CDRW drive to work?

The system recognized the drive, and I'm able to read it just fine, but I
can't write to it.

Regards,
Clyde J. Kell
