I've noticed this to happen several times myself. What I did to fix
it was to boot the machine, and not go into XWindows.

>From there I ran mouseconfig. Configured the mouse, made sure all the
daemons were started, and then started XWindows. Well now the only
problem I have with the Mousewheel is with Netscape, or Nutscrape as I
like to call it! :0) For some reason it will work just fine in Nutscape
and then an hour later it won't work again. Then work again in the morning.
I've heard others have this problem too and I'm not sure what the heck causes
it.

Give mouseconfig a try. Mousedrake is a GUI and mouseconfig is not, so you
can't mousedrake unless you start the XWindows server. And I think X being
started and then you change something is what causes it to go back to
Unknown later. But that's just a not so educated guess on my part.

| Hi friends,
| I have an IntelliMouse or a mouse with the wheel that although I set it up on
| the installation it didn't want to work afterwards. Well yesterday I was
| playing with the mouse settings and I got it to work (the wheel).
| First I went to DrakConf then to Hardware Configuration. Then look for the
| mouse. Click on the mouse there, most likely it will say "unknown". Select
| it and click where it says "Run Configuration tool". There select the
| IntelliMouse under PS/2 (if applicable). Click OK. Close everything and
| reboot. After that your mouse should work if it doesn't wait some more my
| didn't after the first reboot. I noticed it worked until hours later. For
| some reason HardDrake will still show "Unknown" under Mouse-but it works!!!
