If I have interpreted what you are saying, you are starting in runlevel 3
instead of 5
On 7.2, once you are in KDE, you just click on DrakConf then choose Boot
Configuration (the icon is a penguin and boot) then set the boot to runlevel
5. I believe you can also do this with linuxconf.
