Just realised two things. 1/ You have to restart Samba before it will start logging to the new destination. 2/ By default your user does not have permission to enter the directory /var/log/samba so you must change the permissions appropriately > You will now be able to view the log and statistics windows in KDE Samba > status. > > Hope that has helped someone > > Derek
