Don't have an answer but it doesn't hurt to on occasion after adding programs packages or whatever to go to a single user mode and from the command prompt as root: type in : "rpm -rebuilddb " then when it returns to a commant prompt type in: "update-menus -v" the -v for verbose so you can see the progress of the menu update. Thus if a package is installed and it is set up to automatically put an icon on the desktop or a button on the taskbare etc the new dodad should appear.
