These are true statements. There may be a way to get around the need for the audio cable from the CD drive to the sound card. However: * I'm not sure how that relates to ripping -- can you (Paul) play audio CDs on the laptop (under Linux)? * If the problem is a missing cable, may be difficult to deal with on a laptop.
